So far we have discussed one of the active climate control systems, Geothermal, utilized in the Ellis Residence. As construction moves right along, we would like to introduce you to the installation of the first passive system, Thermal Mass.
Seattle Architects often struggle with the timing of excavation and foundation work due to the infamous Seattle rain….However, we are pleased to announce that foundation work has been completed with little trouble.
Seattle based Coates Design Architects designed this home with a goal of LEED-H Platinum certification in mind. It utilizes several different mechanical systems like this geothermal loop to achieve such a rating.
Stacks of wood milled and dried on site sit ready to construct a Bainbridge Island home. The Ellis Residence, a sustainable design from Coates Design Architects will be constructed using this wood. It’s just the beginning of this green design.
The site for the Ellis Residence is located on the Yeomalt Bluffs overlooking the central Puget Sound and downtown Seattle. A small cabin built in the 1930’s adorned the site.
One of the first steps and our first LEED-H credit (ID 1.2) was to assemble a project team. The team has been in place and has given invaluable advise and instruction since the conceptual stages of the design.
Well, we have some catching up to do here. Construction commenced on the Ellis Residence a few month’s ago. So, we would like to get you up-to-date as soon as possible while still hitting the important steps of construction thus far.
