Stacks of wood milled and dried on site sit ready to construct a Bainbridge Island home. The Ellis Residence, a sustainable design from Coates Design Architects will be constructed using this wood. It’s just the beginning of this green design.
All of the fir trim, stair treads and benches in the Ellis Residence will come from fir trees milled and dried on site. The milled wood came from one tree on site that posed a risk to the house, as well as, a few trees donated from a neighbor down the street. Before the trees were cut down the immediate and surrounding areas were checked for wildlife habitat through programs at the City of Bainbridge Island and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
