Designed as the first phase of a multi-generational retreat, the Brighton Beach Guest House offers a refined yet relaxed environment for a retired couple to host family and celebrate their legacy property on Whidbey Island. Sited on an open bluff with sweeping water views and abundant natural light, the guest house temporarily replaces the aging main cottage while establishing a vision for the property’s future.

Expansive glazing and lofty, light-filled interiors foster a strong connection to the landscape, while a rich material palette—clear cedar siding, fir ceilings, and natural stone—evokes warmth, durability, and a sense of place. A hybrid steel and wood structural system allows for both modern expression and timeless craftsmanship, rooting the home in its Pacific Northwest context.
